Project Overview
“We purchased the house in 2013, and shortly after moving in, moved straight back out!” explains Mrs Grant, reflecting on the early stages of her home transformation in the Hertfordshire countryside.
The property, around 23 years old at the time, had never undergone any major work. “It needed much attention,” Mrs Grant shares. “We planned a full refurbishment and decided to move out to make the process faster and more manageable.”
Located within a conservation area, the project required careful material choices that would meet planning requirements. “We initially looked at uPVC windows and doors, but our local conservation authority made it clear that timber was required. That’s when we discovered Mumford & Wood.”
The original windows were difficult to open, offered poor performance, and were finished in a dark stain that made the interiors feel gloomy. Replacing them was a key priority for improving comfort, light, and aesthetics throughout the home.
At the rear, outdated French doors and casement windows were removed in favour of a large four-panel bi-fold door system, transforming the kitchen and dining area and framing the view of the garden. “I’m a keen gardener, so the new bi-fold doors were an excellent choice!” adds Mrs Grant.
Flush Casement Windows
Throughout the home, elegant timber Flush Casement windows were installed, finished in a dual colour palette: ‘Silk Grey’ externally and ‘Signal White’ internally. This specification not only modernised the look of the home but was also fully approved by the local conservation authority.
Bi-Fold Doors
The original rear doors and windows were replaced with a sleek four-panel timber Bi-fold door set. Finished in the same dual colour scheme as the new casement windows, these doors dramatically enhance natural light and provide a seamless connection to the garden.
Entrance Doors
For the front of the property, the Grants opted for new timber Entrance doors in a complementary finish. Externally, the doors are painted in ‘Grey Blue’, while the internal finish remains consistent with the rest of the home, ‘Signal White’, ensuring a cohesive and refined interior look.
