Surrey Estate Upgraded with Bespoke Timber Windows & Doors
A vast historic estate in Surrey, spanning across four villages and covering a six-mile radius, is undergoing careful and considered restoration.

The process of dealing with Mumford & Wood has been very good for me—my representative is extremely efficient, and the after-sales care is excellent as well.

Project Overview
With responsibility for many residential properties leased to tenants, the estate places a strong emphasis on heritage preservation and sensitive refurbishment.
Leading these efforts is Noel Ashton-Rickardt, Director of Cedarwood NAR Ltd, who oversees the maintenance and refurbishment of all estate-owned properties. Mumford & Wood is proud to have been selected as the preferred supplier of timber windows and doors for the estate's ongoing programme of restorations.
"In a previous role, I worked with another window supplier, but the quality just wasn't where it needed to be for this estate," Noel explains. "My predecessor had already specified Mumford & Wood products for two new-build homes here, and I was impressed by the quality. I subsequently recommended them for all future renovations, and the estate owners agreed."
One notable example is The King's House, a property dating back to the mid-1800s. Like many homes on the estate, it required the careful replacement of its original timber windows and entrance door, balancing energy performance with architectural integrity.
"The estate's top priority is conservation," Noel says. "That means retaining authenticity, using traditional techniques, and reclaiming materials wherever possible. Timber windows and doors are the right solution for us."
With limited opportunities to improve energy performance on heritage properties, Noel notes that selecting the right windows and doors is critical.
"Aside from roofing and joinery, there's little else we can do to upgrade thermal performance. That's why the quality of the timber products we use is essential, Mumford & Wood helps us achieve those standards without compromising the period aesthetic."
At the time of writing, Noel is managing three ongoing property refurbishments where new roofs have been completed and Mumford & Wood windows and doors are next to be installed. He has also just placed an order for joinery across six more properties.
"The pricing is fair, and the quality is second to none," he concludes.
Flush Casement Windows
Installed across multiple properties, Flush Casement windows from Mumford & Wood were chosen for their traditional detailing and customisation options. A range of glazing bar configurations were used to reflect the individual character of each home, demonstrating the product's flexibility in sensitive restoration projects.
Entrance Doors
New Tintagel-style Entrance doors were specified in a classic 'Signal White' finish, offering a timeless appearance that complements the heritage architecture found throughout the Wotton Estate.
