High-End New Build Showcases Timber Excellence in Essex
This stunning new build property in the heart of the Essex countryside was delivered by Ian Rust, owner and director of Struain Projects Ltd, a well-regarded local property development company selected to lead this project.

I really like the Mumford & Wood products, and they were perfectly suited for the high-end finish that I have been aiming for. “Matt has been fantastic to deal with throughout. Everything from the initial quote through to the aftercare has been very efficient.

Project Overview
"This land originally formed part of the neighbouring homeowners' driveway and garden," Mr Rust explains. "They also own several fields behind the plot, so with surplus land available, they chose to develop a thoughtfully designed home to complement the area and eventually bring it to market."
Respecting and reflecting the character of the surrounding architecture was a key consideration throughout the design process. Every external detail of the home was carefully planned to remain in keeping with nearby properties and the local vernacular.
"I was initially considering a plain tiled roof," says Mr Rust, "but the surrounding homes all have slate. It made sense to carry that through here for consistency." The render and timber cladding combination was also selected to harmonise with the traditional style of other homes in the village.
While the exterior remains faithful to traditional design cues, the interior prioritises contemporary living. The property features a high-specification kitchen and bathrooms, underfloor heating, and wireless sound connectivity throughout, ensuring both comfort and functionality.
Entrance Doors
To suit the scale of the home, three sets of timber entrance doors were specified and installed. Each door is a bespoke interpretation of Mumford & Wood's classic 'Tintagel' style, modified with extended glazed panels to enhance natural light and add a modern edge. The doors are painted in shades complementary to Farrow & Ball's 'Castle Grey' externally and 'Pure White' internally, offering a refined and timeless finish.
French Doors
To the rear of the home, a new set of French Timber Doors with sidelights opens out onto the expansive garden. Finished in a tone to match Farrow & Ball's 'Castle Grey', the French doors echo the cladding colour for a unified and considered exterior palette.
