East Sussex Development Brought To Life With Timber Windows & Doors
Nestled in the desirable village of Burgh Hill in East Sussex, Hadlow Gate is a striking new-build family home developed by specialist property developer Luke Lewis.

I was satisfied that the Mumford & Wood products were of a higher quality than the alternative option, and although slightly more expensive, worth every penny of the difference for their superiority.

Project Overview
Situated on a half-acre plot carved from a neighbouring estate, the property was acquired with full planning permission for a bespoke, executive-style residence, an opportunity Luke recognised immediately.
Now completed and brought to market at £850,000, the 3,000 sq. ft. four-bedroom home combines classic New England styling with refined detailing, including red brick, crisp white timber cladding, and an architectural form that sits comfortably within its mature woodland surroundings.
Having begun construction in November 2013, Luke initially planned a traditional block build but pivoted to a timber frame due to post-recession material shortages. The result was a faster build programme and a finish he now favours. “Using a timber frame meant we could keep going through the winter. The entire project was completed in just six and a half months,” he says. “Having seen the benefits first-hand, I’ll definitely be sticking with timber structures going forward.”
Windows and doors played a central role in the property’s overall aesthetic and specification. Conscious of the premium price point and the discerning expectations of future buyers, Luke opted for high-performance timber products. “For a home of this standard, quality and detail are everything. PVC was never an option; only timber would do.”
After a careful comparison of two leading suppliers, Luke selected Mumford & Wood. “The products stood out for their superior quality. They were slightly more expensive, but it was clear they offered far greater value.”
Entrance Door
To complement the traditional red brick and crisp cladding, Luke specified a classic Pomeroy Entrance door in a warm ‘Light Oak’ stain. The door is framed with full-height flag windows on either side, creating a grand and light-filled entrance.
Flush Casement Windows
Installed throughout the property, Flush Casement windows in a timeless ‘Pure White’ finish feature 18mm astragal bars in a square layout. Designed for both elegance and durability, the windows offer reliable operation and enduring visual appeal, perfect for modern homeowners with an appreciation for traditional craft.
Bi-Fold Doors
At the rear of the property, a three-leaf Bi-fold door set opens up the spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area to the garden beyond. It’s a seamless link between indoor comfort and outdoor living, reinforcing the home’s family-friendly, lifestyle-focused design.
The result is a beautiful, well-considered home that merges heritage style with modern functionality. With the project now complete and attracting significant buyer interest, Luke is already looking ahead to his next venture, one that Mumford & Wood is proud to support.
