1960s Replacement Project
Breathing Life Into A 1960s Rectory

“The new windows are strong and sturdy—they feel like quality!”
The Project
Set in the English countryside, this 1960s rectory has undergone a complete transformation at the hands of Mrs King and her family. Once a rental property, it has now become a thoughtfully redesigned and reimagined forever home with classic, locally inspired styling.
“When we decided to move in, we knew we wanted to give the house a new identity,” Mrs King explains. “It needed personality, warmth, and character, something we could truly call our own.”
With the help of their builder, the Kings were introduced to Mumford & Wood through a trusted local merchant. Having worked with the brand on previous projects, the merchant knew the traditional style, craftsmanship, and product quality would be a perfect fit for the home’s updated aesthetic.
To explore their options, the Kings visited the National Self Build & Renovation Centre (NSBRC) in Swindon. “We looked at another supplier, too, but Mumford & Wood’s products stood out. They just felt right for our home,” says Mrs King.
Every detail was carefully considered, from colour choices to glazing options. The result is a harmonious blend of leaded light and Georgian-style windows and doors that bring personality and cohesion to the property.
“The difference is remarkable,” Mrs King reflects. “Windows are the eyes of the house. You have to get them right, and we did. They’ve completely changed how the home feels, both inside and out.”
Her advice to others embarking on similar renovations? “Never cut corners on your roof or your windows. They define the whole house. Always get the best you can afford.”
Flush Casement Windows
Inspired by the design of neighbouring heritage homes, the Flush Casement windows are finished in ‘Pure White’ and enhanced with leaded light detailing. Classic black Monkeytail handles and matching pegstays complete the look, adding a traditional, hand-forged touch.
Entrance Door
At the front of the property, a Hadleigh-style Entrance door with full-height sidelights provides a warm, welcoming focal point. Finished in a bespoke colour close to Farrow & Ball’s ‘Skylight’ and framed in ‘Pure White’, the door is elevated with 18mm astragal glazing bars and a striking black Chatsworth handle.
French Doors
To the rear, timber French doors and flag windows in matching ‘Pure White’ continue the traditional aesthetic. Featuring 18mm astragal bars, the French doors contrast beautifully with the leaded light windows at the front of the home, offering a balanced blend of styles and natural light throughout the living spaces.
The result is a beautifully reimagined home with charm, quality, and craftsmanship at its heart, brought to life with the help of Mumford & Wood’s timeless timber windows and doors.
