Project Overview
One such project was the renovation of The Design Partnership Ltd’s offices, based in a Grade II Listed building in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire.
As an established architectural practice with a strong reputation across East Anglia, The Design Partnership chose Mumford & Wood to supply high-performance, traditionally styled timber windows and doors that would meet strict conservation requirements while also improving the energy efficiency of their building.
“The original windows and French doors had deteriorated significantly,” explains Office Manager Chelsea Bligh. “They were no longer fit for purpose, letting in draughts and struggling to retain any heat through the winter months. We turned to Mumford & Wood to provide like-for-like replacements that were both sympathetic to the building and high performing.”
Due to the listed status of the office, any new windows and doors had to closely match the period design. Mumford & Wood’s heritage-led manufacturing approach allowed for a seamless blend of traditional aesthetics with modern performance standards.
“Mumford & Wood offered a contemporary timber solution that preserved the original charm while also giving us added benefits like enhanced security and double glazing,” Chelsea adds.
Performance was also a key driver in product selection. “As a business, we’re actively working to reduce our carbon footprint. Improving thermal efficiency in the building was a major priority, and these new windows will help significantly reduce our energy use.”
With the external renovation now complete, the transformation is clear. “The windows have refreshed the appearance of our building, restoring its character while making it far more functional,” Chelsea concludes.
“We’re thrilled with the end result.”
Sash Windows
Installed throughout the offices, the new timber Sash windows are finished in a classic ‘Cream’ shade. Each window features 18mm astragal glazing bars and Polished Chrome sash hardware, offering the perfect balance between heritage authenticity and modern performance.
Flush Casement Windows
In other areas of the building, such as the shared kitchen, timber Flush Casement windows in the same ‘Cream’ finish were specified. Their traditional design complements the property’s period architecture while enhancing natural light and ventilation.
