1930s Country Home Brought Back to Life with Elegant Renovation
Jamie Thompson, a returning customer of Mumford & Wood, has recently completed an extensive renovation of this charming 1930s property nestled in the Suffolk countryside.

Mumford & Wood did a really good job of matching the style and design of the original windows. The finish is so good that some people think they are plastic. But when they get up close to see them properly and touch them, the quality shows, and they can tell the difference. I’m very happy with the look of the property now; it is much smarter and neater.

Project Overview
"When we bought the house, almost everything needed updating," Jamie explains. "Aside from the original walls, everything else was replaced or rewired to bring the property up to modern standards."
The home's unique structure spans both the pre-war period of the 1930s and the post-war mid-1940s, offering a rare blend of architectural features and renovation challenges. Although Jamie typically focuses on small-scale, high-specification new build developments, with an average selling price of £750,000, this character-filled property presented an irresistible opportunity to add long-term value.
"Given the amount of work required, I chose to live on-site throughout the renovation. That allowed me to closely manage every aspect of the project," he adds.
As an experienced builder, Jamie oversees all his developments and relies on a trusted network of suppliers, Mumford & Wood included, for premium timber windows and doors.
Flush Casement Windows
"The property originally featured timber windows, and to preserve its character, it was essential to stay with timber," Jamie notes. "Other materials simply wouldn't have suited the style or period of the house."
After consulting with the team at Mumford & Wood, Timber Flush Casement Windows in a classic 'Pure White' finish were specified and installed throughout the home, perfectly echoing its 20th-century heritage while delivering modern performance.
French Doors
To the rear of the property, a striking set of French timber doors was fitted, complete with sidelights and a toplight to maximise light and views. Finished in the same 'Pure White' as the casement windows, these doors offer a smart, clean-lined upgrade from the original set, bringing both elegance and functionality to the living space.
