Timber Windows are low-maintenance window frame options that are not only long-lasting but are a great aesthetic addition to your home.
Home maintenance is something that many people are looking to keep short and sweet, where possible, and your Windows should be no exception. No material will be maintenance-free, so it’s essential to keep it as low as we can, where possible. Compared to other popular Window frame materials, such as uPVC, timber has much lower overall maintenance requirements due to the nature of the material. On average, you’ll need to clean your uPVC window frames a minimum of four times a year, whereas for timber, you’re looking at an average of two. It already sounds more appealing, right?
Why is timber a low-maintenance material?
Timber, in general, is a low-maintenance material. Think about how long a tree stands for, in the wind, rain and snow. The density and the molecular structure mean that it’s long-lasting in many weather conditions. It can expand and contract in certain conditions to adapt to the moisture within the air.
The factory finish
When being made in the factory, your timber Window frames should be finished to the highest standards, meaning that a lot of the maintenance and protection work should already be done by the time you receive them. The protective paint or stain ensures a couple of things; firstly, you won’t have to get them repainted as often, and secondly, the material itself will have extra longevity.
Here at Mumford & Wood, we take pride in ensuring that our Windows are not only made to the highest standard but are also protected and strong enough to last decades. We only use multi-layered protection stains and paints on our products to guarantee long-lasting but also low-maintenance.
What do you need to do?
Mumford & Wood paints and stains are protected under our comprehensive warranties Still, there is a tiny bit of work to make sure that their longevity is optimised as much as possible and helps the aesthetics of the exterior of your property. You can use a soft cloth with warm, soapy water to remove any dirt and debris for general cleaning. For grease marks, use a cloth with no liquid. All Mumford & Wood Windows come with a window cleaning kit, so we recommend utilising this a couple of times a year. It’s important to note that you should not use window cleaner on your timber window frames.
