The Project

Set in the peaceful Lincolnshire countryside, this striking Georgian farmhouse, built in the 1750s and protected with Listed status, has recently undergone a sensitive and thoughtful renovation led by long-term homeowner Mr Lane.

"We've lived here for 16 years and had considered moving, but nothing else on the market compared. So we decided to stay and invest in restoring and enhancing the house," Mr Lane explains.

The full renovation began in late 2019, with the windows identified as one of the first priorities. Following a recommendation from a trusted merchant, the Lanes explored a range of timber window suppliers. Among the options, Mumford & Wood stood out for its superior quality and heritage-sensitive approach.

"We compared a number of samples in person. While others may have looked similar at first glance, the craftsmanship and finish from Mumford & Wood was clearly in another league."

Given the property's Listed designation and its location within a conservation area, the project required careful consultation with local heritage officers. Mr Lane, drawing on a career in construction, was well-equipped to manage the process and engaged closely with the conservation team to ensure any upgrades respected the character of the home.

"Our goal was always to preserve the heritage of the building while enhancing its performance. The new timber sash windows were designed with that in mind, and we gained approval for double glazing based on our sensitive approach."

The results have exceeded expectations. The new sash windows blend seamlessly with the period detailing, improving comfort and usability without compromising authenticity.

"The original sash windows were difficult to operate. Now, they glide open effortlessly. I genuinely enjoy showing visitors how well they work!"

From specification to delivery, Mr Lane praises Mumford & Wood's end-to-end service.

"The whole process was excellent - quoting was clear and professional, delivery was on time, and everything arrived well protected and ready to install. I'm really very happy with the outcome."
