Mumford & Wood welcome The Riverside Timber Recycling Project

The Riverside Timber Recycling Project works in partnership with ACE, part of Voluntary Action Epping Forest, providing a workspace, materials and guidance for woodworking projects to upcycle furniture and make items for sale out of reclaimed wood.

By offering all waste timber offcuts to Riverside Timber Recycling Project, Mumford and Wood can support those in the local community that are facing challenges or have disabilities, providing an opportunity for them to learn essential skills through working with wood and selling these products on to the wider community.

Dion Panting, General Manager at Mumford & Wood explains;

For a company that naturally produces waste from timber production, we wanted to find a creative way of recycling that directly helped those in our close community. Although we continue to minimise the amount of waste we create with careful selection of engineered timbers, we still naturally have some off cuts which are not suitable to our production needs. This, for past 4 years has helped create local jobs, training, and volunteering opportunities.

The project sent a few of their members to the Mumford & Wood factory in Tiptree for a tour of the facility, to better understand how materials are sourced and how Timber windows and doors are made – a real eye opener to the industry and a great experience for everyone involved.

Ricky Price, Director of Riverside Timber Recycling Project explains;

The project relies heavily on input from local companies and Mumford and Wood have always understood the importance of that. Our members have a range of disabilities ranging from learning difficulties to autism and allowing them to see first hand from the factory how timber products are made has been invaluable for their learning. They also loved showcasing some of their work to the Mumford and Wood team and has given them real confidence in their abilities working with timber.
